  1. Will we have our own private network within our unit in Webworks Galway?

    Yes. Each company in Webworks Galway will be assigned to a separate VLAN (virtual
    network) which will not be accessible from any other company’s VLAN. Each
    company will be presented with specific data and voice ports (labelled). Simply
    connect your devices to these floor ports with Cat5 cables and create your own
    private network.

  2. Is there a DHCP server on the network?

    Yes. The DHCP and DNS server is a Windows 2003 server. Each company’s VLAN will
    be assigned to a separate IP range and DHCP scope on the server, so devices will not
    need to be statically configured. Each company will be assigned 254 host addresses
    within a subnet. The DHCP scope (dynamic addresses) will start at 192.168.x.10 to
    192.168.x.254.

  3. Can we use static private addresses for certain devices such as printers, etc.?

    Yes. Addresses between 192.168.x.2 and 192.168.x.9 will not be included in the
    DHCP scope and can be used to statically configure certain devices. Please see the
    Fixed Network User Guide.

  4. How do you access email in Webworks Galway?

    Email can be accessed through your existing ISP.

  5. Will all of our PCs and laptops need to be joined to the Webworks Galway Domain?

    Your laptops and PCs can continue to operate within your existing domain setup or
    you can use a local logon. There is no need to join the Webworks Galway domain.

  6. Is our network protected by a firewall?

    Yes. All company VLANs are routed at the core of the network to a shared firewall.
    Access control lists allow a company access to the internet through the firewall. The
    ACLs also disallow any traffic from one company’s VLAN to another VLAN. The
    firewall is a 3com X506, which uses proactive Intrusion Prevention (IPS) to protect
    internal networks from external attacks. The X506 offers web-content filtering which
    can be applied to a company’s subnet should they request it. There is also an
    anti-spam function which can be applied to any company’s subnet should they
    request it.

  7. Is our network protected from other internal threats such as worms or spyware on PCs or guest laptops?

    Yes. The 3com X506 can automatically remove an infected PC from the network, or
    "move" the PC into a quarantine network where it can be safely repaired before
    being allowed back on the live network.

  8. Will we be able to access our network from remote locations?

    Yes. Each company may request a VPN (virtual private network), which will give them
    remote access to their network. The VPN will use PPTP which can be configured on a
    windows client without the need to install a proprietary VPN client on your laptop or
    PC.

  9. What kind of broadband is available in Webworks Galway?

    Webworks Galway provides high-speed uncontended fibre broadband via a direct
    link to the Galway Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). The standard broadband
    service is provided on a shared basis to all tenant companies, however, additional
    dedicated, uncontended broadband can be provided to each tenant should
    additional capacity be required. This will be administered through the firewall, where
    a company subnet will be assigned to a separate security zone and will be given a
    guaranteed amount of bandwidth to the internet. The packages available are subject
    to change depending on demand.

  10. Are there any restrictions on the content we can access on the internet?

    No. There are no internet restrictions imposed on any company. However, the
    Internet is intended for business use on a fair use policy and the management
    reserves the right to limit access to tenants and their employees who engage in
    activities which are not consistent with this policy. If a company wishes to block
    access to certain sites from their network, Webworks Galway can offer Web Content
    Filtering.

  11. Are there any restrictions on the services we can host from our network?

    Companies who wish to host services internally will need prior approval by
    Webworks Galway management.

  12. Is there any wifi available in Webworks Galway?

    Yes. All areas in Webworks Galway have wifi coverage, including the company units
    and the conference rooms and other public areas.

  13. Can the wifi be used by guests and visitors?

    Yes. Guests and visitors may connect to the wifi.

  14. Name the vendor of all network devices on the Webworks Galway network.

    All edge switches used in each unit are 3com 4500 switches with Power over
    Ethernet support on every port. There are 24 x 100mb ports and 2 x 1gb ports
    (uplinks). Each edge switch is connected to the core over multi-mode fibre links.
    The core consists of 2 x 3com 5500 stacked switches with 48 x 1gb ports.

    The DHCP and DNS server is connected directly to the core. This is a MS Windows 2003 Server. The 3com X506 firewall is also directly connected to the core. The 3com
    management PC is directly connected to the core. This runs 3com Network Director
    which actively monitors the Webworks Galway switched network. It also runs 3com
    WX manager which actively monitors the wireless network.

    All wireless access points are 3com 3150 and 3750 models. Each AP has two radios,
    the first broadcasts on the 802.11a frequency and the second on the 802.11b
    frequency (used by the VoIP phones).
    The guest wifi is administered by an IP3 gateway, which also acts as a DHCP server
    and firewall.
